Among the most striking miracles God gave to Prophet Musa (Moses, peace be upon him) was the transformation of his hand into pure, radiant light. God commanded him:
"And put your hand under your armpit, it will come out shining white, unblemished, as another sign, so that We may show you some of Our greatest signs." [Qur'an 20:22-23]
When Musa would place his hand against his body and withdraw it, his hand would emerge blazing with light—brighter than the sun and moon combined. This wasn't metaphorical brilliance or symbolic radiance. His hand became actual, physical light so intense that it illuminated everything around him.
But this miracle wasn't just about demonstrating power. It was about using light to dispel darkness—both the physical darkness of ignorance and the spiritual darkness that had engulfed Pharaoh and his kingdom.
Pharaoh represented the epitome of spiritual darkness. He claimed divinity for himself, enslaved an entire nation, and murdered children to maintain his tyrannical grip on power. His heart was so covered in layers of darkness—arrogance, oppression, denial of truth—that ordinary words couldn't penetrate.
So God gave Musa a hand that became light itself.
When Musa stood before Pharaoh and revealed his illuminated hand, he wasn't just showing a magical trick. He was manifesting a profound spiritual reality: Truth is light, and light exposes and expels darkness. No matter how thick the veils of falsehood, how deep the denial, how fortified the ego—light penetrates everything.
The shining hand was both literal and symbolic. It was literal light that people could see with their physical eyes, and it was spiritual light meant to pierce through the darkness covering Pharaoh's heart. It said without words: "Your claims of divinity are darkness. Your oppression is darkness. Your denial of the One True God is darkness. And here is the light that exposes it all."
What's profound about this miracle is the vehicle God chose: the hand.
Not a staff that turned into a serpent (though Musa had that too). Not a voice from the heavens. Not fire or thunder. A hand—the most human, the most intimate, the most practical part of the body. The part we use to work, to touch, to give, to heal, to create.
God took the ordinary human hand and transformed it into extraordinary light. This teaches us something crucial: the human body, especially the hands, can become a conduit for divine light.
While we don't have Musa's unique miracle, we do have access to the same principle. Our hands can carry light—not the physical, blinding brilliance that Musa manifested, but the spiritual light (Nur) that heals, guides, and transforms. When we use our hands for healing with intention and divine connection, we're operating on the same spectrum as Musa's miracle, just at a different intensity.
The Qur'an tells us this hand served as "a light for Musa"—both literally and as guidance. It illuminated his path forward and confirmed his mission. But it also served to "expel darkness and ignorance from the hearts and minds of the disbelievers around him."
This dual purpose mirrors exactly what Islamic energy healing does:
For the healer: The practice of channeling divine light through your hands strengthens your own connection to God, increases your spiritual clarity, and confirms your role as a servant bringing benefit to others. You are illuminated by the very light you transmit.
For the one receiving: The light you channel works to expel their darkness—whether that darkness manifests as physical illness, emotional trauma, spiritual oppression, or ignorance keeping them from truth.
Light doesn't argue with darkness. It doesn't debate it or try to convince it to leave. Light simply displaces darkness by its very presence. When you bring divine light into a situation—through your hands, through Qur'anic recitation, through blessed water—the darkness has no choice but to recede.
God says this miracle was shown to Musa "so that We may show you some of Our greatest signs."
Why was a shining hand one of the greatest signs? Because it demonstrated several profound truths simultaneously:
God has absolute power over physical reality. He can make flesh become light, transforming matter into pure energy at will.
Light is the fundamental reality. Darkness isn't a substance—it's merely the absence of light. When light appears, darkness automatically vanishes. This is true physically and spiritually.
The human body can manifest divine attributes. Musa's hand became light because God willed it, showing that the created can reflect and transmit the qualities of the Creator when they're aligned with His will.
Truth needs no elaborate argument. Sometimes the most powerful witness to truth is a simple, undeniable manifestation of divine power. Musa's hand spoke louder than any theological debate.
When you practice Islamic energy healing—placing your hands on someone while reciting divine words, wiping over areas of pain, channeling blessing and light—you're participating in this same reality that Musa's hand demonstrated.
Your hand becomes a transmitter of Nur. Obviously not to the degree of a prophetic miracle, but the principle is identical: your hand, when used with proper intention and divine connection, carries and transmits spiritual light.
That light dispels darkness in all its forms:
You don't fight the darkness—you bring light. You don't battle with the illness or argue with the spiritual attack. You simply channel divine light, and the darkness must yield. This is why Islamic healing is so often gentle yet powerful. It's not forceful combat; it's the natural displacement of darkness by light.
There's another layer to this miracle. God told Musa to place his hand under his armpit—against his side, near his heart—and when he drew it out, it would shine.
This detail is significant. The hand had to first go into darkness (tucked away, hidden) before it could emerge as light. And it had to be placed near the heart—the spiritual center.
This mirrors the spiritual journey we all must take. Before we can become sources of light for others, we must first:
You can't effectively channel healing light if you haven't done your own inner work. The most powerful healers are those who've faced their own darkness, brought light to their own wounds, and emerged with a hand that shines—not with arrogance or ego, but with genuine divine connection.
Despite witnessing the shining hand—despite seeing undeniable proof of divine power—Pharaoh ultimately rejected the truth. His darkness was so thick, so chosen, so reinforced by pride that even miraculous light couldn't penetrate it permanently.
This teaches us something sobering: Light offers the opportunity for transformation, but it doesn't force it. You can bring divine healing light to someone, but they must choose to receive it. Their heart must be willing to let the darkness leave.
This is why, when practicing healing, we always acknowledge: "There is no healing but Your healing." We bring the light, but God grants the healing. The person must be open to receive it. We're instruments, not controllers.
Some people will see the light and run toward it. Others will see it and turn away, preferring their familiar darkness. This is not a failure of the light—it's the exercise of human free will.
While we don't have Musa's literal miracle, we have something equally miraculous available to us: the ability to become channels for divine light through simple, accessible practices.
Every time you recite Qur'an over someone in pain, your mouth becomes like Musa's shining hand—transmitting light that dispels darkness.
Every time you place your hand with intention and prayer over a wound or illness, your hand becomes like Musa's—carrying blessing that heals.
Every time you prepare blessed water and give it to someone suffering, your hands become instruments of light—transforming ordinary substance into extraordinary medicine.
The principle hasn't changed. Light still expels darkness. Divine power still manifests through willing, aligned human beings. The hand—your hand—can still become a vehicle for miraculous healing.
Musa didn't create the light in his hand. God made it shine. But Musa had to be willing to use it, to extend it, to bring it forth in front of Pharaoh despite the risk.
You don't create the healing light either. God is the source. But you must be willing to be the conduit—to extend your hand, to speak the words, to channel what God provides.
This is the invitation: Let your hands become instruments of light. Let your presence dispel darkness wherever you go. Let your touch carry blessing, your words carry healing, your very being radiate with the Nur you've received from consistent connection to the Divine.
You may never have a hand that blazes like the sun. But you can have a hand that brings relief to a child's fever. That calms an anxious heart. That transmits divine mercy to someone in despair. That wipes away the spiritual darkness keeping someone trapped in suffering.
That is miraculous enough. That is your portion of Musa's shining hand.
May God make us sources of light in this world's darkness. May He use our hands to channel His healing. May we bring relief to those suffering and guide those lost. May our very presence become a sign—not of our own power, but of the One who transforms ordinary hands into instruments of extraordinary light. Ameen.
